Cloves

For over 200 years, cloves have been cultivated on Zanzibar and for a long time the spice archipelago was the biggest producer of cloves in the world. The ancient clove trees of the 1001 Organic farmers stand tall all over the spice forests of Pemba, reaching a height of up to 10 meters. The old clove trees are vastly superior to the new hybrid types, with higher quality and more intense aromas. The pinkish flower buds are picked before they begin to blossom, and are then carefully dried and hand-sorted. This process leads to the rich chocolate color, large size and fabulous fragrance of our organic-certified cloves.
